Weightloss: Raspberry Ketone

In a May 2005 report in Life Sciences written by Morimoto C, Satoh Y, Hara M, Inoue S, Tsujita T, and  Okuda H. indicated the anti-obese action of raspberry ketones. This same study indicated that raspberry ketones prevents and improves obesity and fatty liver. These effects appear to stem from the action of RK in altering the lipid metabolism, or more specifically, in increasing norepinephrine-induced lipolysis in white adipocytes. Raspberry Ketones were recently the subject on Dr. Oz where he introducted it as "the number one miracle in a bottle to burn your fat."  This has resulted in hundreds of companies rushing production of raspberry ketone products to keep up with the demand. But be aware and keep in mind that not all products are not alike.

Are Natural Raspberry Ketones Safe and Effective?

Clinical studies have shown that yes, natural raspberry ketones are safe and have been shown to inhibit fat production and stimulate fat loss. What are they? Raspberry ketone (4-(4-hydroxyphenyl) butan-2-one; RK) is a major aromatic compound of red raspberry (Rubus idaeus). The structure of raspberry ketone is similar to the structures of capsaicin and synephrine, compounds known to exert anti-obese actions and alter the lipid metabolism. In essence, they are an exract of red raspberries. The problem is when companies try to synthetically grow ketones in a lab and use a weak amount that they become ineffective.

Do Raspberry Ketones Really Work?

Published in the journal Life Sciences, an article named "Anti-obese action of raspberry ketone is perhaps the most famous clinical study of raspberry ketones published. Results revealed that the addition of raspberry ketones helped reverse the weight gain induced by a high-fat diet and appeared to protect against the buildup of fat in the liver. The full clinical study can be found by clicking here.

What to look for when buying Raspberry Ketone:

  • Look at and read the label - The label needs to state that it has only 100% Pure Raspberry Ketones with no "extras" - some products add fillers like like green tea, African mango, acai, kelp, caffeine, etc. Remember, the purer the raspberry ketones, the better the quantity and effectiveness of the raspberry ketones.
  • Ingredients listed should cbe made up of at least 450-500mg of raspberry ketone per serving. Look at the label, a lot of current marketed products contain only 100mg of actual raspberry ketones, which is just a fraction of the amount of a human dose equivalent to those found effective in clinical studies. If the label is not shown, request to see it before you make a purchase.
  •

  • Ketones should be from real red raspberries and not grown in a lab. In the clinical studies keep in mind that actual raspberry ketones were used, with this in mind your supplement needs to be from 100% pure raspberry ketones (only, there should be nothing else).
  • The manufacturer is FDA registered and cGMP certified. The product must conform to the tested grade strength and purity of USP quality standards.

What to avoid when buying Raspberry Ketone:

  • Avoid  "Free Trials" and automatic rebilling. This is very important, read what you are agreeing to before you commit to purchase! Currently a lot of companies will have you agree to automatically bill your credit card monthly when you make a purchase. This in turn will make it difficult to cancel automatic shipments that you may not want.
  • Avoid Pictures of Celebrities. While celebrities might like raspberry ketones, currently no major celebrity has endorsed a particular brand of raspberry ketone.
  • Avoid synthetic copies grown in a lab. Look forketones that are from real red raspberries and not grown in a lab. Read the product lable and make sure it tells you exactly how much pure raspberry ketones are in it.
